It all started with a frustration
The goal was simple: to listen to a radio station from another country. But finding an app to do that properly turned out to be surprisingly difficult.
Every time, the same scenario: full-screen adverts before you've even chosen a station, pop-ups to close one after another, a cluttered and unintuitive interface. And once the station finally starts, a one-in-two chance of landing on a stream that doesn't work.
Everywhere else, always the same conclusion: either too much advertising, or a complicated interface, or a half-broken catalogue. Rarely all three problems solved at once.
So we said to ourselves: what if we simply built the app we'd always wanted to find?
What's wrong with what's out there
Let's be honest, the problem isn't a technical one. Listening to online radio is a twenty-year-old idea. The problem is everything that's been piled on top of it:
Advertising that takes over everything. Banners, interstitials, videos you can't skip, pop-ups that appear at the slightest click. You end up spending more time closing windows than listening to music.
Complicated interfaces. Endless menus, compulsory accounts, features nobody needs, and in the end you can't even find the play button.
Stations that don't work. The worst thing for a radio app. A catalogue that boasts thousands of stations, but where a good number lead to broken, abandoned or unreachable streams. The promise isn't kept.
What we decided to do instead
A radio app that does one thing, and does it well.
No adverts popping up everywhere. You open the app, choose a country, and listen. That's it. No wall of advertising before you start, no pop-up interrupting you mid-listen.
Easy to use. The interface gets straight to the point: you browse the world by country, start a station, and the sound keeps playing even when you lock your screen. No instructions to read, no sign-up just to listen.
With radios that genuinely work. We rely on Radio Browser, a worldwide database of stations that's free, open and maintained by a community of enthusiasts. The stations are checked continuously, and we do everything we can to spare you dead streams and point you towards what's working.
Our promise
We're building this app with one fixed idea in mind: staying on the listener's side.
That means an app you want to open, not one you put up with. Light, clear, respectful of your attention and your time. The kind of simple, honest tool we'd have loved to find in the first place, and that we ended up building ourselves.
Happy listening, and safe travels.
